Obituary NU Review 5-2-1938 Two Members of Pioneer Family Die Day Apart-Anton Hillesheim, sister Mrs. Anton Baumann Pass Away-Two members of the old and well known pioneer family of Hubert Hillesheim, a brother and a sister, died over the week end and funeral services will be held for them Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, respectively, from Holy Trinity, where they have seen so many of the important events of their lives take place. The two deceased members of the family are Anton Hillesheim of New Ulm and Mrs. Anton Baumann, nee Clara Hillesheim, of Sigel township. Mrs. Hillesheim died Saturday evening at 9:20 and his sister died the following morning at 8:30. Anton Hillesheim was born August 22, 1855 in Cook County, Illinois. When he was still a very small child his parents came to Minnesota and settled in Sigel township. There his sister Clara was born December 3, 1861. When the Indian outbreak occurred the family fled to St. Peter returning some years later to again make their home on the same place. The brother and sister grew up together there and April 4, 1883, Mr. Hillesheim was married at Holy Trinity by Rev. Father Berhold to Miss Maria Hillesheim and they continued to live in Sigel until 1918. Mrs. Hillesheim's death occurred 27 years ago. There were ten children in the Anton Hillesheim family and all but one survive their parents. They are Mrs. Joseph F. Helget of Williamstown, N.J., who arrived last week Wednesday for a visit with her father; Mrs. John F. Landsteiner of Milford; Mrs. Chas. F. Wiltscheck and Meinrad Hillesheim of Sleepy Eye; Mrs. John A. Wilfahrt, New Ulm, John A. Hillesheim of Sigel Mrs. Frank J. Wiltscheck and Mrs. Wm. Domeier of New Ulm, and Mrs. Harry J. Schmidt of Linden. There are 75 grand children and 8 great grandchildren. One brother, Hubert of Cottonwood township is the only living member of the original family, now that Mrs. Baumann has also passed on. Mr. Hillesheim was very active in the community in which he made his home. He served for 16 years as Secretary of the Segel Creamery Association, was a member of the school boeard for many years, and was frequently a township officer. He also took an active interest in Church affairs and was a member of the St. Joseph's Society at the time of his death. He had been living at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank J. Wiltscheck on North State Street where he died. His death was the result of Uremic poisoning and the complications due to old age. Mrs. Anton Baumann was six years younger than her brother Anton. Her death was due to chronic heart trouble and complications. She was born after the family came to Minnesota but was in time to be one of the pioneers who suffered from the onslaught of the Indians in 1862. At that time she was a baby of less than a year and suffered with her brothers and sisters the dangers and hardships of the refugees. She too was brought bahk [sic] to the Sigel homestead and when she was grown, married her surviving husband, the ceremony being performed at Holy Trinity November 19, 1889. She is survived also by three of her four children. They are Henry W. Baumann and Albert H. Baumann of Sigel and Mrs. Joseph Zwach of Home township. One brother Hubert is the only remaining member of her family. There are ten grandchildren.
