FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Pamela Kebis Submitted: March 2003 ========================================================================= Review - March 1932 MRS PHILOMENA BRAND Mrs. Philomena Brand, well known resident of this city since 1915, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Anna Wallner on South Broadway, Sunday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock. During the past eleven weeks Mrs. Brand had suffered three strokes of paralysis, the last one causing her death. Philomena Kachelmeier, was born February 25, 1844 in Austria, and had thus passed her 88th birthday anniversary. When she was a child 12 years old she came to America with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kachelmeier, who located on a farm near Klossner. During the Indian outbreak members of the family fled to St. Peter, and upon returning to their farm found that the redman had destroyed their home. Mrs. Brand continued her residence with her parents until she was united in marriage with George Brand in 1864, the ceremony being performed at St. George. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Brand moved to a farm near St. George. In 1873 Mr. Brand died, leaving his widow with six children. Two of these preceded her in death. In 1888 Mrs. brand left the farm and moved to Redwood Falls, have been married in 1883 to John Monnens, who also preceded her in death. One son was born of this union. The children who mourn her passing are: Mrs. Anna Wallner, New Ulm, with whom the deceased has made her home for many years; Anton Brand, Milford township; George Brand, Minneapolis, Mrs. Mary Ranweiler, St. Paul, and Frank Monnes of Isabell, S.D. One brother, Anton Kachelmeier of Sleepy Eye as well as 33 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren, also survive. Funeral services were conducted from St. Mary's Catholic church in this city Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock. Solemn Requiem mass being conducted by her grandson, Rev. Wm. Brand of the Cathedral in Minneapolis. Interment was made in the St. George Catholic cemetery. The deceased was a member of the Christian Mothers Society of Holy Trinity Catholic church, the Sacred Heart Society of St. Mary's church of this city and of the Mother's Society of St. George.
