Sprenger and Henry Knees have received the sad news of the death of there brother-in-law, William Magnus, former resident of New Ulm, who died at the home of his son, Oscar in Webster, S. D., May 31, aged over 73 years. He had been ailing for several weeks. Deceased was born in Harrisburg, Pa. November 5, 1855, and later came West with his parents, locating at Minnesota City, in 1862. Their journey was interrupted by news of the Indian outbreak, shortly after passing through New Ulm, and they returned to this city until the danger had subsided. Later, Mr. Magnus came back here, and for a time was employed in a local cooper shop. On December 26, 1879, he was married to Miss Martha J. Gareis, and to this union, the following four sons were born: Edward, William, Oscar, and Walter, all residing at Webster. In 1883, the family moved to Pierre, S.D., where they took up a homestead and spent 13 years. They have resided in Webster, since the spring of 1896. Funeral services were conducted at the M.E. church there, Monday afternoon of last week.
