Following, as it did, so closely upon the death of the elder Petry, the blow was a terrible one to the immediate relatives, while to his co-workers in the newspaper field it awakened feelings of the deepest sorrow and regret. Eduard Petry was an interesting and useful young man. In his editorial work he did not attain to any particular prominence, but his sentiments were noble, his ideals high, his honesty unquestioned. He never allowed anything to interfere with his loyalty to principle. This same steadfastness of purpose, it was, that made him such a valuable force in the Turner organization to which he belonged and to which he devoted so much of his energies. That society will feel more keenly than can the public or the individual the loss which his death entails. Mr. Petry was born in New Ulm on the 29th of September, 1868. After attending school here he went to Stillwater, in 1888, to do editorial work on a German paper. Four years later found him doing similar work in Jamestown, North Dakota, and in 1893 he returned to New Ulm to accept a position on the Post. Ten years ago he and his brother, Armand, became the sole proprietors of that well-known weekly and as such they continued until the paper's consolidation about a year ago with the Review. During all of the time since his return to New Ulm he has held the position of turnwart in the Turnverein and on several occasions, three at least, he has accompanied classes to the national turnfests. His interest in athletic work seemed unfailing. The Turner Hall was to him a second home, and there it will be that the last sad tribute will be paid to his memory. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at three o-clock.
