There was nothing in her actions and demeanor during the day which would indicate a different mental condition than had been manifested for some weeks, and she ate at noon with the family as usual. After dinner Mrs. Knees went up stairs to do some packing and left her sister to wash the dishes. Not hearing anything downstairs for some time, Mrs. Knees became alarmed and went down to investigate. Not finding her sister in the house she started outside to look for her. As she was going toward the barn she passed the summer kitchen and there she saw her sister hanging from one of the rafters. She immediately called to her husband who was in the yard and he went into the summer kitchen and found that life was extinct. As it was a plain case of suicide no inquest was deemed necessary. The deceased was born May 6, 1876, in the town of Milford where she spent her childhood days and grew to womanhood. About 20 year ago she developed melancholia and her condition became so aggravated that she had to be sent to the hospital at St. Peter for treatment. About a year later she was discharged as fully recovered and she was getting along very well until some months ago when a nervous breakdown once more became apparent. Her hearing had been quite seriously affected for several years and lately she was not able to do as good work as she had been doing in the past years. Before the breakdown came she was painstaking and careful and seemed to take a great deal of pride in turning out faultless work of whatever kind it was. With the exception of about eighteen months which she spent with her sister, Mrs. Fred. H. Gareis at Pomona, California, between 1915 and 1917, she has always lived in this vicinity and made her home with her mother and her sisters, Mrs. Albert Knees and Mrs. Herman Pfaender. She was well taken care of and really had nothing to worry about, but still she did worry, and her condition seemed to become more aggravated after the death of her mother, which occurred last August.
