FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Pamela Kebis Submitted: October 2002 ========================================================================= Journal, December 10, 1948 MISS LENA WIEDENMANN SUCCUMBS Oldtime Resident Taken at 83; Rites To Be Held Sunday Miss Lena Wiedemann, 88, sister of Otto Wiedemann and Mrs. Herman Pfaender of this city, and a native of Milford township, died at a New Ulm hospital at 1:20 a.m. today. She had been a patient there since Nov. 4. Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Minnesota Valley Funeral home. Burial will be in City cemetery. The body will be at the funeral home Saturday afternoon and evening and until the funeral hour Sunday. Lena Wiedenmann was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Wiedenmann, pioneer settlers of Milford township, where she was born Jan. 27, 1865. She grew to womanhood on the homestead and then was employed for a number of years at Redwood Falls and Mankato. Later she was housekeeper in the home of Mrs. Theodore Crone, Sr. After Mrs. Crone's death she continued as housekeeper for Ferdinand Crone, until he died. Then Miss Wiedenmann for a number of years was engaged in private baking for many families in New Ulm in her apartment in the Henry Durbahn home. DURING THE past 2 1/2 years Miss Wiedenmann made her home in a cottage near the Otto Wiedenmann home, 414 North Franklin street. She was active all her life. Miss Wiedenmann was a member of the Junior Pioneers, and for many years was an active member of the Ladies' Hecker circle, G.A.R. She was well known by a large number of the older residents of New Ulm for many of whom she did private baking. Miss Wiedenmann is survived by one brother, Otto Wiedenmann, New Ulm, and two sisters, Mrs. Herman Pfaender, New Ulm, and Mrs. Alma Gareis, South Gate, Calif.
