FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Pamela Kebis Submitted: March 2004 ========================================================================= Review - December 14, 1927 SIMON WORATSCHKA The sudden death of Simon Woratschka occurred at his home at 602 North Minnesota Street sometime during the night Friday or early morning hours Saturday. He had not been ill, nor had he complained of ill health to any of his friends. The night before he had visited with friends, and left their home about ten o'clock apparently in the best of health. His death was discovered about eleven thirty Saturday forenoon. The John Reinhart, Jr., family occupy the same house and about 11:30 Saturday morning Mrs. Reinhart sent one of her children to the room of Mr. Woratschka with a bowl of hot soup for his dinner. The child retuned again and told the mother that Mr. Woratschka was still sleeping. It was then that Mrs. Reinhart dicovered that the old gentleman had passed away. The county coroner, Dr. G. F. Reineke and County Sheriff Wm. J. Julius were called to the home and the former pronounce the death of Mr. Woratschka as being caused by a heart stroke. Simon Woratschka was born in Pilsener Kreis, Bohemia, February 9th, 1848, and was thus 79 years old at the time of his death. When he was 19 years old he came to this country and located in New Ulm. A short time after his arrival, he took up farming in Lafayette township. He was married to Miss Barbara Gabriel in this city in July, 1869. Immediately afer their marriage they established their home on the farm and lived there until in 1901 when they retired from active farm life and came to New Ulm to live. Mrs. Woratschka passed away five years ago. Seven children blessed the Woratschka home, five of whom have preceded the father in death. Those who remain to mourn are: Joseph Woratschka of Lafayette township and Mrs. B. J. Seifert of Lamberton. One brother residing in the old country, also survives, as do nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
