Young America Eagle, Young America, Carver County, Minn. Friday Feb. 13, 1914 Henry Fabel, Sr., Answers Last Call His Death Occurred at the Soldiers Home on Friday of Last Week. Henry Fabel, one of the early residents of Young America and Carver County, died at the Soldiers Home in the twin cities on Friday, February 6, 1914, at the age of 78 yrs. and one month. The deceased was a native of Germany and was born near Darmstadt, Hesse, January 6, 1836. In 1850 he came with his parents to the United States and located in Philadephia, Pa. After remaining there a few years they came to Minnesota and settled in Benton Township, Carver County. On Nov. 11, 1858, he was united in marriage with Magdalena Torksdorff. The couple continued farming until 1865, when they moved to Young America and for a period of fourteen years conducted a hotel and saloon on the site now occupied by the City Hotel building. In 1879 they disposed of their possessions here and purchased the Union Hotel at Norwood. This they conducted until 1884, when they moved to the farm at Benton town. Mrs. Fabel passed away January 19, 1908, the husband since then residing with the children and at periods in the Soldiers Home. The deceased was a veteran of the Civil War and served in the 5th Minnesota. The married union of the couple was blessed by twelve children, eight of whom are living, namely: William and Frank, of Norwood, Edward, of Minneapolis, Philip, of Danube, Emil and Albert, of Benton Township and Mrs. Henry Lindert and Oscar Fabel of Minneapolis. The four children that preceeded the father to the grave are Mrs. Albert Mayer, Charles, August and Henry Jr. There are 39 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Philip of St. Paul. The remains were brought to the home of the son Frank at Norwood and the funeral was held Sunday afternoon. Rev. Quarder of the Lutheran Church officiated at the house and grave. We sympathize with the bereaved relatives.
