Phillip Provo was 90 years of age when he died. Funeral services were held from the Longville School and the remains were laid to rest in the Evergreen cemetery. In the early days, when logging was at its height in this section "Phil" Provo was considered a "top hand". His services were always in demand. He made his headquarters at Longville even then, where he worked for Jimmy Long in his logging operations. After the lumbering days were over he married and settled on a farm near Longville, where he and his wife were blessed with four daughters, all of whom, with the wife, survive him and mourn the loss of a devoted husband and father. Our memories of Phillip Provo and his early years in this section would fill a newspaper. He was a born woodsman, knew every sign set by nature to a guide the woodsman, he was an expert boatman and in fact there was nothing in woods lore that seemed to puzzle him in the least. It was a real treat to spend an evening in his company and there are a few of the early settlers left who will join with us in extending sympathy to the wife and children. Phillip Provo, Longville Citizen Passes Sunday Walker Pilot 6 Feb 1930 Having reached the prophesied age of three score years and ten, Mr. Phillip Provo, well know and highly respected resident of Longville, suffered a heart attack Thursday evening just after he entered his home after having completed his evening chores. Death occurred in a few moments; the patient did not regain consciousness after the heart attack, which was brought on by a hard cold. Deceased was widely known in the Longville community, having resided there during the timber operations which work he followed for many hears, later settling on a small farm. For the past few years Mr. Provo was caretaker for the summer home on Woman Lake of Carl B. Jones, owner of the Minneapolis Journal. Mr. Provo was a man held in high esteem in his community. He did not acquire great wealth as far as money goes, but he lead a kindly life, rich in the virtue of helpfulness to others and kindly indulgence for his family. Married late in life, he is survived by four daughters, the youngest four years of age and the eldest fifteen years. They with the wife survive. Mr. Jefferson Jones, upon hear of Mr. Provo's death drove up from Minneapolis and made necessary arrangements for the funeral. Mr. Jones spoke in the highest terms of this employee.
