Bruss here Tuesday Prominent Farmer of Community Died Last Saturday Following Short Illness Services were conducted from the Methodist Church of Lindstrom Tuesday afternoon of this week for G. J. Bruss, prominent farmer of this community who passed away at the Bethesda Hospital, St. Paul last Saturday afternoon, January 5th. Mr. Bruss, who had enjoyed good health all his life, was stricken December 26, while shoveling snow at his home in Lindstrom where he lived in retirement. He was rushed to the Bethesda Hospital, St. Paul, and operated on immediately for an intestinal obstruction. His condition was critical from the beginning, due to a gangrene infection but he remained conscious until the last day greatly appreciating the visits of family, friends and relatives. Officiating at the service was Rev. Marlen Johnson of the Methodist Church here, Rev. Blane Lambert and the Rev. John Nelson, the latter an old friend of the Bruss family who came here from Ellsworth, Wisconsin to attend the ceremonies. Pallbearers were Arthur Succo, Otto Thalenhorst, Walter Broecker, Wallace Broecker, Victor Johnson and Oscar Bursch. Interment was made at the Panola Cemetery. Gustav John Bruss was born June 18, 1872 on the Bruss farm in the Panola Community and made his home there until he and Mrs. Bruss retired from farming and moved into Lindstrom three years ago on his 70th birthday. As a boy Mr. Bruss attended the Panola Methodist Church, was confirmed and was a member there until his death. He was joined in marriage to Theresa M. Broecker, also of the Panola Community, November 30, 1899. To this union were born nine children, three of whom have preceded their father in death. Those left to mourn his sad departure are: his wife, Theresa; two sons, Wilbur and Robert on the home farm; four daughters, Myrtle (Mrs. John Magnuson) of Scandia; Ruth (Mrs. William Thill) of Stockton, Illinois; Lena (Mrs. Clinton McKinney) of Graden [sic] Grove, California and Julia (Mrs. Lloyd Russell) of Stillwater. Also three brothers: Charles of St. Paul, William of Menominee, Wisconsin ; Louis of San Diego, California and one sister, Clara (Mrs. Math Muschik) of Clayton, Wisconsin, also 11 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
