FileFormatted by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Laurie Keller Submitted: Oct 2003 ========================================================================= Chisago County Press, Thursday, April 15, 1909 It is the painful duty of your correspondent to record the death of Mrs. Christine Palmgren, who peacefully passed into the great beyond at 3 a.m., last Saturday morning, aged 70 years, 10 months, and was thus very nearly 71 years old. She died from pneumonia and was until the very last a patient sufferer and resigned to her fate. This good woman, who everybody loved for her kind heart and gentle disposition, was born in Dädesjö socken, Småland, Sweden, in 1839, where she spent her chidhood and blossomed into womanhood, and where she was married to Gustaf Palmgren in 1867. In the year 1869 she emigrated together with her husband to America, coming diredct to the Chisago Lake colony, in the midst of which she has ever since resided. In the early days she was a member of the Swedish Lutheran Churcdh in Center City, but in 1874 she moved to Chisago City together with her family and then beame a member of the Lutheran Church at Chisago Lake and has during all these years been a faithful supporter of the church. She leaves a husband, Gustaf Palmgren and an only daughter, Mrs. August Lofgren. The funeral services which were held from the new church last Tuesday afternoon were deeplyh impressive and the church was filled to its utmost capacity, Rev. Slätt officiating. The floral tributes were many and beautiful, giving a sad but loving evidence of how deeply this good woman was loved and respected in the entire community. The remains were interred in the West End cemetery. Mr. Palmgren has requested the writer to thank from the very bottom of his heart all the friends who have been of assistance to him during these trying days and for the many kind expressions of sympathy which have come to him from each and every one. The PRESS desires to tender the grieving father and daughter its sincere sympathy in this their great bereavement. May she rest in peace and everlasting bliss. (Further notice in the Center City "social notes": The funeral of Mrs. Palmgren of Chisago City was attended by some of her relatives from this place. It was an event to be always remembered as it was the first funeral service ever held in the new church.) (Note: her death certificate lists her as a widow, and mother of two children, one still living at the time of her death. Clearly, however, from the obituary, her husband was still living at the time of her death.)
