FileFormatted by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Laurie Keller Submitted: January 2005 ========================================================================= Chisago County Press 15 April 1937 CHARTER MEMBER OF TAYLORS FALL CHURCH IS DEAD Mrs. Nelson Tuvey Passes Away in Minneapolis Wednesday Morning Mrs. Nelson Tuvey, 84 years of age and the last living charter member of the Taylors Falls Lutheran Church died at 10 a.m. yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. E. Lindberg in Minneapaolis. The end came from a stroke following an illness to which she was subject since Easter. Mrs. Tuvey had been practically blind since last summer. Funeral services will be held tomorrow, Friday, at 2 p.m. from the Chisago Lake Lutheran Church at Center City with Rev. C. E. Slatt, pastor officiating. Rev. Omar Brenne, pastor of the Lake Nokomis Lutheran Church which Mrs. Tuvey attended regularly during her two year stay in Minneapolis, will also be present to aid in the services for this beloved woman. Pallbearers will be six grandsons, namesly: Roy Sorenson, Woodrow Johnson, Curtiss Holmgren, James Swanson, Elliot Tuvey and Donald Tuvey. Interment will be made at Taylors Falls in the Kahbahkong Cemetery. The deceased, whose maiden name was Emma Louise Johnson, was born August 18, 1852 in Smoland, Sweden and came to this country in 1863 coming to Taylors Falls by steamboat on the St. Croix from Stillwater. She stayed in Taylors Falls and was married in 1870 to Nelson Tuvey. The couple settled on a farm 1-1/2 miles northwest of Taylors Falls, where they remained until 1911 when they moved to Center City in retirement. Mr. Tuvey died in the spring of 1924. Mrs. Tuvey then lived with one of her daughters, Mrs. Ida V. L. Johnson until two years ago when she moved to Minneapolis, in the fall of 1934. Nine children were born to Mr. And Mrs. Tuvey two of whom have preceded her in death. Those who live to mourn her loss are the following daughters and son: Mrs. Hannah Sorenson, Mrs. Nancy Johnson and Mrs. Georgia Berger all of St. Paul, Mrss. Nellie Holmgren and Mrs. Ethel Lindberg of Minneapolis and Mrs. Ida Johnson of Center City and her son James Tuvey of Taylors Falls. She also leaves 21 grandchildren and 5 grandchildren [sic], two sisters in Sweden, and one sister in Center City, Mrs. Andrew Pierson and one brother, C. G. Johnson of Pallmdale, besides a large host of friends in the Taylors Falls and Center City communities.
