Dec. 12, 1912 Prominent Old Settler At Rest. After a lingering illness of protracted duration, caused principally from infirmity, Andrew Wallmark, one of the oldest settlers in this community, passed away at his home near Chisago City last Saturday at fifteen minutes of 1 a. m., having attained the rather advanced age of 86 years. In the death of Mr. Wallmark this community looses one of the early pioneers of this community, a man who has for years been a prominent citizen of this county, having held many positions of public trust, amongst others that of the register of deeds of Chisago county, which he held for nineteen years. He was therefore well known all over the county, was a trusted official, a devout church member, of firm character and enjoyed the respect and esteem of all his friends and fellow citizens. Andrew Wallmark was born in Asige, Knobesholm, Holland [sic], Sweden, Feb. 19, 1826. He emigrated to the United States in 1854, arriving in this colony that same yer and was thus one of the charter members of the Swedish Lutheran church at Center City, with which church he affiliated until about three years ago, when he joined the Lutheran church in Chisago City. When Mr. Wallmark first came to his country he stopped at Chicago for a short time, but soon came to Minnesota where he remained in St. Paul for a brief period prior to locating at Chisago Lake. He was drafted for military service in 1865 and was in the northern army for abut three months. Soon after his arrival in this colony he engaged in farming, locating on the old Wallmark farm near Chisago City, where he has ever since resided. He was married shortly after settling on his farm to Mary Shaleen, a sister to the late Hon. John Shaleen, who represented this district in the state legislature for a number of years. Mrs. Wallmark died in 1900. About a year or so ago, Mr. Wallmark sustained a fracture of his hip and since then has been failing continually. The funeral will be held from the Wallmark home this afternoon, at 1 p.m., Rev. C. E. Slätt of Chisago City, officiating. Interment will take place at Center City cemetery. Mr. Wallmark is survived by four children, viz. Mrs. Benny Benson of Wyoming, Minn; Mrs. Emil Nelson of Chisago City, George Wallmark who still resides on the home farm and Theodore Wallmark, who is in the employ of Wyman, Partridge & Co., of Minneapolis. Two other children are dead, viz., Mrs. Carl Ekman and Carl Albert Wallmark. Peace to his ashes.
