Butenhoff, 83, Fargo, ND, formerly of Moorhead, MN, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, in Villa Maria Healthcare Center, Fargo. Funeral services will be Thursday, Nov. 2, at 2 PM in Trinity Lutheran Church, Sabin, MN, with Pastor Dan Wagner officiating. Visitation will Be Wednesday from 4-8 PM, with a prayer service at 6:30, in Dobmeier Funeral Home, Barnesville, MN and two hours before in the church. Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery near Sabin. Ellen, Daughter of Carl and Ingeborg (Ronning) Erickson, was born Nov. 9, 1916, in Fargo, one of three daughters. She attended school and grew to womanhood in Fargo, graduating from Fargo High School in 1934. She attended Interstate Business College in Fargo before working in Fargo. She married Clarence H. Butenhoff June 11, 1939, in the Albert Butenhoff home near Baker, MN. The couple made their home and farmed in Alliance Township near Baker. They retired from farming in 1974. Mr. Butenhoff died in 1979. Ellen continued to live on the farm until 1991 when she moved into Moorhead. In June of this year she became a resident of the Villa Maria Health Care Center in Fargo where she lived until the time of her death. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sabin, the Ladies Guild and her Bible Study Circle. Ellen taught and supervised Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for many years. She was active in her church's winter quilting and knitting club. She was a member of the Lady Bug Gardening Group who were responsible for a lovely garden in Comstock, MN. She also was a member of the Clay County Homemakers and volunteered at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead. She was an avid bowler for more than 50 years and enjoyed playing whist. She served as flower judge at the Clay County Fair. Ellen served in many positions of leadership in many of these organizations. She was an avid reader, loved to play Scrabble and enjoyed watching golf on TV. She is survived by two daughters, Shirley (Gregory Green SPHR) Butenhoff Scott, MD, Santa Fe, NM, and Beverly Butenhoff Kaufman, Huntsville, AL; four stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Dana (Don) Green Cataldi, Fairfield, CT, and their children Spophie and Isabella, Conrad Taft Green, Los Angeles, CA, Nathaneal Stuart Green with the Peace Corps in Honduras, Central America, and Josephine Nevin (Jesse Hill) Green, White Sulpher Springs, MT; one sister, Harriet Ahoyt, Del Rio, TX; sister-in-law, Alice, (Mrs. Leonard) Butenhoff, Fargo; and many nieces and nephews.
