THEODORE BUTENHOFF OBITS, #672T & 737T Theodore fredrick butenhoff & Ethel Evelyn Poehls Name and date of newspaper unknown Funeral services held Wednesday for Sabin couple. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sabin for Mr. and Mrs. Theodore (Toad) Butenhoff. Mrs. Butenhoff passed away Saturday, Sept. 22, at her farm home and Mr. Butenhoff died early Tuesday morning in St. John's Hospital in Fargo where he was being treated for a heart condition. Both are members of Trinity Lutheran Church at Sabin. Pastor LeRoy Philaya officiated at the final rites. Soloist was Larry Nelson and organist was Mrs. Claude Nash. Burial was in Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery. Theodore Frederick Butenhoff was born Jan. 19, 1901, in Downs County, Iowa, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Butenhoff. The family later moved to a farm near Baker. He married Ethel Poehls June 4, 1930, at Sabin. The couple had farmed in the Sabin area. He passed away just three days after the death of his wife. Survivors include two sons, Roy of Sabin and Theodore Jr. (Ted) of Moorhead; three daughters, Alma of Sabin, Mrs. Carroll (Lila) Stubstad of Fargo and Mrs. Vernie (Viviette) Haugvedt of Ulen; a sister, Mrs. Evelyn Sether of Carlisle; and three brothers, Clarence, Leonard and Bill, all of the Barnesville area. He was preceded in death by his wife and two sons, Donald in 1953 and Ray in 1942. There are also seven grandchildren. Pallbearers for Mr. Butenhoff were Curtis, Edward, Ronald, Orville and David Butenhoff and Jerome Poehls. Mrs. Theodore (Ethel) Butenhoff passed away at the farm home at Sabin at the age of 69 years. The daughter of Ernest and Mary (Mikkelsen) Poehls. Ethel was born Jan. 26, 1910 at Moorhead. Besides the children and grandchildren previously mentioned, Mrs. Butenhoff is survived by three brothers and one sister, Argain Poehls and Harold Poehls of Sabin, Calvin Poehls of Glyndon and Mrs. Elmer (Vivian) Bakke of Hicks, N. Dak. Her pallbearers were Floyd, Dennis, and Melvin Butenhoff, ElRoy Bakke, Harlan Poehls and Alvin Hansen. ========================================================================= Copyright Don Hansen 2006.
