FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Don Hansen Submitted: June 2006 ========================================================================= HARTWELL CARR OBIT, #800T Barnesville Record-Review Thursday, 2/17/1966 Hartwell Carr Dies in Baker Car-Train Crash Hartwell (Acy) Carr, 77, died Friday morning when his car was hit by a Great Northern train at the railroad crossing in Baker. He had been visiting in Baker and was returning home when the accident occurred. He was alone in the car. Funeral services were held Monday at St. James United Church of Christ with Rev. Merlin Dietrich officiating. Mrs. Dietrich and Mrs. Armand Hough sang. Mrs. Robert Bergeson was organist. Pallbearers were Kenneth Carr, Alvin Hansen, Howard McEvers, Bernard Gaugler, Floyd Butenhoff and Theodore Butenhoff Jr. Military rites were conducted by the Maurice E. Masterson American Legion Post 153 and the VFW Post 4628 of Barnesville. Interment was in Barnesville Cemetery. Dobmeier Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. The son of William R. and Lovesta Coomer Carr, Hartwell was born Feb. 10, 1889 on his father's farm in Hubbard County, Iowa. He had observed his 77th birthday at a party at his home Thursday evening. In 1902 the family moved to a farm in Elkton Township near Baker where he attended school and grew to manhood there. He was a veteran of WWI, serving in France. Mr. Carr and Luella Butenhoff of Baker were married June 22, 1932 in Trinity Lutheran Church at Sabin. They farmed in the Baker and Barnesville area. Mrs. Carr passed away in March of 1941. Acy retired in 1960 and moved into Barnesville where he had made his home until the time of his death. He was a member of the Barnesville American Legion, the VFW and World War I Barracks of Rothsay. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. John (Glennys) Giorgi Jr. of Mountain Iron, Minn. And Mrs. Arlo (June) Olson of Renton, Wash. There are seven grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Oscar (Effie) Peterson of Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. C. A. (Elma) McEvers and Mrs. Frank (Pearl) Gaugler, both of Barnesville. Iola Pfaff has made her home with the Carr family since June of 1941 when she came to help Acy raise his family after the death of is wife.
