Tribune Newspaper: publ. 13 January 1928. "WM. COOK Jan 13, 1928 "CIVIL WAR VETERAN DIES SATURDAY "Wm. Cook, Odd Fellow 45 Years, Dies at Age of 80 Years "One of the few remaining Civil war veterans was mustered out Saturday, Jan. 7, when Wm. Cook, aged 80, died at his home here of old age. The death of the pioneer citizen removed one of the highly respected citizens from the community. "Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the home, Rev. R. H. Mercer officiating. The Odd Fellows had charge of the services at the grave. Burial was in Corinthian cemetery. "William Cook was born in Hawley, Mass., March 9, 1847. He came with his parents to Madison Wis., in 1856. From there they went to Castle Rock Minn. He enlisted in the Federal army during the Civil war and served one year. He then returned to Castle Rock where he resided until 1873. He was united in marriage to Louisa Town in Marion, Iowa, in 1874. They lived in Castle Rock until 1885 when the came to Farmington where they have resided ever since. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge 45 years, and was a member of the A. O. U. W. many years. "He is survived by his wife, seven children, namely, Mrs. George Stelle, Enderlin. N. D.; Mrs. G. F. Connell, Minneapolis; Mrs. W. P. Mergen, St. Paul; Mrs T. W. Holmes, Joseph Cook, Arthur Cook, and Mrs. A. W. Vanderlick, all of Farmington. "Those from out-of-town who attended the funeral are: Mrs. George Brockway, St. Paul; George Cook and daughter, Ruth, of Independence, Missouri."
