Nicholas Brost, who has been very ill during the past week, is somewhat improved today and his many friends now look forward to his speedy recovery. 2. C.A. Brost of Eden Valley, is in town, called here by the serious illness of his father. Dakota County Tribune - Lakeville, MN, USA Died, Tuesday, Nov. 20, 1900, Nicholas Brost, an old and respected citizen of this town. Mr. Brost was born in Prussia in 1822, he came to this country in 1843 (age 21), settling at Sheboygan, Wi., there he lived nineteen years. In 1866 he came to Lakeville (age 44) where he since resided. He was married (age 25) to Miss Veronica Ackerman on the 10th of August, 1847. His wife and eight children survive him, they are: Mrs. Mary Battes, New Market (MN) Jno.W., Portland, Oregon; Mrs. Josephine Melchior, Tillmark, Oregon; Charles A., Eden Valley; Battes B., Peter W., Mrs. Lena Oberst and Mrs. Katie Gephart of Lakeville (MN). Mr. Brost has held the office of supervision for about twenty years and has always taken an interest in the affairs of the town. His funeral took place from All Saints church Thursday, the Interment being at New Market. Excerpt from the "History of Dakota County" Published 1881 - Original at Dakota County Historical Society Nicholas Brost was born in Prussia, in 1822. Coming to America in 1843, he went to Milwaukee, and soon after located in Sheboygan on a farm of 140 acres. There he lived 19 years, then sold, and, coming westward, invested in 200 acres of land in Lakeville, where he has since resided. Married in 1847 to Miss V. Ackermann, who has borne him 12 children. The living are; Mary, John, Baltes (my g-grandfather), Josephine, Charles, Peter, Lena and Catherine.
