Surrounded by her children and her children's children, she passed peacefully into the arms of her maker, breathing her last midst that quietness and repose which betokens the entering o those beautiful gates ajar for the soul which was ever steeped in GodŐs deep measure of well-doing. Betsey Parks Houston was born in Ackworth, N. H., [South Acworth, NH] April 10, 1811, died August 9, 1901. She was married to Alexander Houston, October 24, 1836 and settled in Starksboro, Vt [Starksborough, VT]. In 1853, they moved to Fond du Lac county, Wis., from which place in 1861, they moved to Blue Earth county, this state, and in 1862 came to Dodge county, and settled on the farm a mile and a quarter east of this village, where she spent the remainder of her life. She was the mother of three children, Mrs. Addie [Adeline] Fisk, Watson A., and D. M. [Daniel McClure] Houston who attended her bedside during her closing hours. The funeral was held from the farm residence at 10 o'clock Sunday morning, Rev. B. C. Gillis of Chatfield, officiating. Interment was in Maple Grove cemetery. The large funeral cortege testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held, and the sorrowing relatives have the deep sympathy of the entire community. [Betsey Parks was the fifth and final child born to the marriage of Elisha Parks and Mindwell Grout of South Acworth, NH. Betsey is the half-sister of Elisha Adams Parks of Blue Earth County, MN. Mr. E. A. Parks is buried at Garden City, MN. Betsey and Elisha Adams Parks share the same father, Elisha Parks.] [Information in brackets added by the transcriber, William W. Porter on 2-18-2001]
