FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: March 2005 ========================================================================= Douglas County, MN Donald Lundgren Submitted Donald Lundgren was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, on April 20, 1920, the son of Arthur P. and Ida (Nelson) Lundgren. He moved with his family to Moose Lake, Minnesota and eventually Alexandria where he graduated from high school in 1938. Donald then furthered his education by attending Mankato State University where he received an education degree. Following graduation from Mankato State University Donald entered the United States Army where he received training as a B-29 pilot. He served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Following his Honorable Discharge Donald was employed as an Algebra and Chemistry teacher with the Fulda school district. During the summers he worked for the Williams Brothers Pipeline. This summer job led to full-time employment with Williams Brothers in 1952 as a chemist. He lived in Omaha, Kansas City, and Roseville, Minnesota during his time with the company. Don retired and moved to Alexandria in 1982. He lived with his sister Florine until her death in 2002. Donald volunteered at the Alexandria Food Shelf, was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, and loved to walk. He was an avid golfer and was many times a spectator at the Masters Golf tournament in Georgia. Donald died on Tuesday, February 15, 2005, at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home at the age of 84 years. He is survived by his brother Allard Lundgren of Alexandria and nieces and nephews Kathy LeSage, Coleen Gullickson, Mark Lundgren, Mary Pat Paulzine, Gary Lundgren, Chris Young, Charlene Krafnick, Pam Palmersten, Jeff Lundgren and Sue Schwarze. Also surviving are 28 great nieces and nephews. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, brother Elwood, sister Florine, and grandnephew Mitchell Gullickson. Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 19, 2005, at the Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Keith Forrester officiating. Organist was Becky Worley and soloist was Harland Angen. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery with All the great nieces and nephews serving as pallbearers. The American Legion Post 87 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 936 accorded military honors.
