AND MRS. DONALD FERCH DIE IN BLAZE SUNDAY AT BLUE EARTH Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, for Donald Ferch and his wife, Pearl Louise Ferch, who died in a fire in their one-room apartment above Mac's Mobil Service Station, in Blue Earth, Sunday morning. Fire of an unknown origin fatally burned Mrs. Ferch and smoke overcame Mr. Ferch who died before firemen could reach him. Mrs. Ferch died in the Blue Earth hospital at 2 p.m. Sunday of severe body burns. The young couple, married last July, occupied one of the second story rooms over Mac's Mobil Service, a combination service station and beer and soft drink establishment on West 1st St., in Blue Earth, owned by Robert Noffke, a brother-in-law. Noffke and his wife, occupied an adjoining room, while their own son, Roger, 12 slept in another room across the hall. The blaze was first noticed about 6:30 a.m. when Noffke heard screams coming from the next room. He rushed down the hall and found Mrs. Ferch lying on the floor just inside the door, the drapes and furniture on fire. Noffle carried her to safety before going back for Ferch. When he failed in his attempt he notified the fire department. Firemen had the blaze under control in quick time, but not oon enough to save Ferch, who died of suffocation before he could be reached. Would-be rescers found his body half way in the door of the clothes closet. It is thought he opened this door thinking it led to the hall. Clothes in the closet were burned and drapes and bed colthing were also destroyed. The blaze was confined to only one room. The Noffke family escaped unharmed.
