E.C. Hovland, 85, dies; rites held Friday
Funeral services were held Friday, March 15, for Eugene C. Hovland, 85, who died 
at his home on route 4, Mora, Tuesday, March 12.  The Rev. William Strom 
officiated at the services which were held at the Grace Lutheran Church in Mora.
Hilding G. Nelson, Waldo Hammergren, Vernon Hillman, Earl Sigstad, Alvin Moen 
and Hector LaDouceur were pallbearers.  Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery at 
Mora.  Akkerman Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Eugene C. Hovland, son of Einar and Mary Hovland, was born Nov. 16, 1888, at 
Frost.  He lived there until he entered the armed forces.  He served in France 
in World War I.  Following his discharge he returned to Frost where he farmed 
with his brother.   In 1925 he came to Arthur Township, Kanabec County, where he 
farmed until the spring of 1930 when he moved to Knife Lake Township where he 
resided until his death.
He was married to Hilda Hanson Nov. 24, 1927.  They were the parents of two sons 
and three daughters.  Mr. Hovland was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church of 
Mora.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, two sisters and his wife, 
Hilda.  He is survived by:  two sons:  Einar Hovland of Mora and Pastor Peter 
Hovland of Livingston, Mont.; three daughters, Mrs. Herbert Montreuil 
(Geraldine), Mrs. Arnold Wencel (Mary) and Betty Hovland, all of Minneapolis; 
seven grandchildren; and three sisters, Mabel Hovland, Rosella Lee, both of 
Mora, and Josie Dorr of Effie.
