McKinster Wells Advocate, Wells, Minnesota, Wednesday, 23 Oct 1906 "FATHER MACKINSTER DEAD A Pioneer of Rice Lake Joins the Great Majority Large Funeral "The death of Dewey Makinster occurred on Sunday morning, Oct. 21, 1906, after a long illness. "Father Makinster was born in Oneida county, N.Y., Feb. 10, 1827. He lived there till about ten years of age when he removed with his parents to Illinois, where he resided till about twenty. At that time the family moved to Rock county, Wis. On March 12, 1848, he was united in marriage to Miss Eliza Pepper. During the year of 1857 Mr. and Mrs. Makinster moved to Waseca county, Minn., and resided there until the fall of 1862, when they came to Rice Lake, Faribault county. Here they had hardly got settled when the news came of the Indian outbreak, and they had to flee in the night time for their lives. But at the close of the outbreak they returned to their claim at Rice Lake, living there till March 1882. Leaving the old homestead they became residents of Wells, where they lived until the death of Mrs. Makinster Dec. 16, 1901. Since then Father Makinster spent the rest of his life at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Skinner, on the old Rice Lake homestead, except for about eighteen months spent with another daughter in Oregon. Mr. Makinster was taken sick some more then two years ago, and most of the time since he has been confined helplessly to his bed. Yet he clung to life, and did not complain, and loving hands gladly ministered to him. The end came peacefully on Sunday morning. "Dewey Makinster, one of the pioneers of a new country, long and well known by a large circle of friends, respected by all, and affectionately beloved by his family has passed away – peace be to his soul. "The funeral services were held at the Rice Lake church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. R. L. Finney of Wells officiating. The interment was at the Rice Lake cemetery."
