A Pioneer Departed -- Emma Jane Reed was born in Magnolia, Rock Co, WI.
Feb. 15th, 1846, died Nov. 16th, 1920 at Pleasant Prairie. She moved
with her parents to Minnesota in 1861. She was converted and joined
the Pleasant Prairie United Brethren in December, 1863, six months after
the church was organized. She and Harrison Marsh were united in marriage
May 27th 1866.
They moved to their present home in 1882, where she has since resided,
excepting one year in Winnebago. To them were born six children of whom
Emory and Frank, Mrs. Ellen Hartman and Mary Brown all of Winnebago
township, still survive her. She has thirteen grandchildren and ten great
grandchildren, one brother and two sisters surviving, and many friends who
will miss her. Mrs. Marsh has been a great sufferer for many years. The
fatal malady which finally gook her began twenty-five years ago. During
all these years she has been gentle and patient, always seeking to be
cheerful and to give the least possible trouble to those who cared for
her. She has ever been an earnest and exemplary Christian and faithful
to her church, which she has served for nearly sixty years. Her last
words heard by the writer were offered in prayer two days before she
went to her reward. She was laid to rest beside her husband in the
Pleasant Prairie cemetery her pastor, Rev. C. B. Canon officiating.
