MRS. MARY SCHERMERHORN Mary Jackson was born Dec. 27, 1822, near Rensselaerville, Albany county, N. Y. At the age of three she moved with her parents to Oswego county, N. Y., where she was married, July 31, 1839, to Philip B. Schermerhorn. They then moved to Schoharie county, where they lived until 1856 when they moved to Winnebago county, Ill. They then came to Faribault county, Minn., where they have since resided, the husband having died in 1898. Mrs. Schermerhorn has been a resident of Wells twenty-two years. She was the mother of six children--four boys and two girls. There are twenty-three grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren. She died February 6, 1911, at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 10 days. There are left to mourn her loss three sons, one daughter and a host of friends. The eldest son, Jas. A. Schermerhorn, lives at Great Falls, Mont. The others, J. J. and L. G. Schermerhorn and Mrs. W. W. Kelley, reside at Wells. Mrs. Schermerhorn has been a member of the M. E. church since she was 14 years old. She was ever a loving wife and mother, patience and self denial being among her many good qualities. The funeral services were held on Wednesday at 1:30 p. m. at the residence and at two o'clock at the M. E. church, Rev. Wm. C. Lee presiding. Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery. Additional info about Mary: She and her husband Philip Barent Schermerhorn donated the land for the Schermerhorn cemetery. Lot 30, Blk 9. Unmarked. Notes from Submitter: Schermerhorn Cemetery Regarding some specific graves: David (Peter) Saulsburys b.10 Nov 1811 Bath, NY He married Savina Dingman 13 August 1831. Their son, Peter Henry Saulsbury, married Cynthia Schermerhorn, daughter of the original owners of the cemetery. Schermerhorn ?? was actually a footstone with the initials G. C. S. This was the grave marker of George S. Schermerhorn, b. 07 Oct 1844 NY, son of Philip and Mary Jackson Schermerhorn. d. 18 Nov 1867 John Wing is probably the son of Homer Wing and Rachel, b. 1859. He was the grandson of Amanda Haight Wing. Amanda Haight Wing was born about 1803 in PA, the daughter of Benjamin Haight and Phoebe Ruff. She married Elihu Wing. Her brother was Nelson Haight, a prominent figure in Lura, MN. Amanda's grand daughter, Luraella Emily Wing, married James Allen Schermerhorn, son of Philip Schermerhorn and Mary Jackson Schermerhorn. Elmer E. Wing was probably the infant son of Homer Wing and his wife, Rachel. The orginal arrangement of the headstones might show that. Homer Wing was the son of Amanda Haight Wing and Elihu Wing.
