Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Tom Hintz The following are from the Mansfield Township cemetery, Freeborn Co., MN.,located 1mi. east and 1mi. south of Mansfield amidst a wood. I understand it sits adjacent to the old HINTZ farm, but there are several in that area. Contributed and transcribed by Tom Hintz This list represents a small portion of the names at that location. Sign at the entrance: MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP CEMETERY "In about 1856, a group of German Immigrants settled this area. A few of the nearby farms are the homes of descendants of those first settlers. There was no formal cemetery until 1877, when The German Cemetery Assoc. formed. A loan of $100 from A. Mattick financed the project. The one acre was purchased from Frank Schneider, 1843-1916. It was surveyed in Feb. and divided into 48 lots. The first burial was of Louise Schmidt, who had been buried in 1862 on the family farm and was later moved here. These headstones stand in quiet memorial to the independent yet civic- minded people whose effort made rural life an American tradition." Stones are as follows.
