Obit for FOGELSON, Mrs. Bennett (Wilhemenia Engel) (b.1841 d.1902), Goodhue Co., MN ========================================================================= Wilhelminia (Engel) Fogelson Jan 10, 1841 - April 5, 1902 Died: Mrs. Bennett Fogelson, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Tews of Skyberg, April 5, 1902. Wilhemenia Engel was born near Bronberg, Prussia Jan. 10, 1841 and fourteen years later emigrated with her parents to America, locating near Ripon, WI. In 1859 they moved to Goodhue Co., Minn. settling in Holden township near Kenyon and on the 9th, of March, the following year she was united in marriage to Bennett Fogelson. They then moved to Cherry Grove township where they lived for a little over thirty seven years. Their union was blessed with seven children five girls and two boys, all but one of whom were with her at the time of her death. They are: Simon Fogelson, Hillyard, Wash.; Mrs. Anna Tews, Mrs. Lydia Smith and Aaron Fogelson of Skyberg, Mrs. Julia Starch and Mrs. Sarah Babcock of West Concord, and Mrs. Minnie Johnson, of Taylor, Wis. Mrs. Fogelson was a devout Christian woman and believed in the Lord to the last when He relieved her of all her sufferings and her trials were great indeed, for her death was caused from a cancer in the stomach. In March of 1901 she was taken ill and went to Rochester for examination and was operated upon but failed to find relief, and the following January underwent a second operation which helped her somewhat. She left the hospital and started for her home at Kenyon, where she and her husband had been living the past two years, but thinking it best to stop a few days with her daughter, Mrs. Tews, to gain strength, she did so, but gradually grew worse and suffered untold agony for ten long weeks when death released her. Relatives and friends did all in their power to help her, but the mother and wife was slowly wasting away and no power on earth could save her. But the end came peacefully and we know her suffering is over. She was a faithful wife and loving mother and esteemed by all who knew her. Besides her bereaved husband and children, she leaves to mourn her untimely loss, twenty seven grandchildren, two brothers and four sisters and a host of sorrowing friends. She was laid to rest April 8, in the Kenyon cemetery. Rev. P.A. Lang of Nerstrand, officiating. She has left us, gone forever For that bright & golden shore She has joined the shining angels Free from care forever more. We shall miss her, O, so sadly But we know her crown is won, The Lord has given, The Lord has taken 'Tis His will; His will be done. Farewell mother, but not forever We will bow to Heaven's will And we'll leave thee sweetly sleeping In the churchyard on the hill The above was received too late for last week ========================================================================= Copyright Jeff Babcock 2006.
