JOHNSON DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS Cannon Falls Beacon, Friday August 25, 1950, pg. 1 Mrs. Ida Johnson, long a Wastedo resident, died Tuesday morning at a Red Wing hospital following a lingering illness. She was 86. Born in Sweden on March 3, 1864, she came with her parents to the United States when five years of age. The family settled in Red Wing where they lived for a few years and where Mrs. Johnson first attended school. Later they moved to the Spring Garden community where she lived until her marriage to Lewis J. Johnson, who owned and operated the Wastedo store. Since her marriage, she had made her home at Wastedo. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. B. C. Peterson and Mrs. Elmer Anderson of Cannon Falls; Mrs. Nick Mertz and Mrs. Joseph Enerson of Minneapolis; and one sister, Mrs. George Wigdahl of Watertown, S. Dak.; 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Her husband, a son and a daughter preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the home and at 2:30 at the Spring Garden Lutheran church. Burial will be at the church cemetery. The following article may have been from another newspaper. Last Rites Held For Mrs. Lewis Johnson Funeral services for Mrs. Lewis J. Johnson were held Saturday afternoon at the Spring Garden Lutheran church, preceded by service at the home. Mrs. Johnson died at St. John's hospital, Red Wing, on Tuesday of last week following an illness of about two weeks, at the age of 86 years. The service was conducted by the Rev. Arthur Chell and Mrs. Chell sang two Swedish songs at the home and Carl Norlin sang two songs at the church. Born in Sweden, Mrs. Johnson came to this country when five years of age with her parents who first settled in the vicinity of Red Wing and later moved to the Spring Garden community. On October 12, 1882, she was united in marriage to Lewis J. Johnson and since had made her home at Wastedo. Surviving are four daughters; Mrs. Bernard Peterson and Mrs. Elmer Anderson of Cannon Falls, Mrs. Nick Mertz and Mrs. Joseph Enerson of Minneapolis; one sister, Mrs. George Wigdahl of Watertown, S. Dak., 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Her husband, daughter, Mrs. Henry Anderson, and son, Edmund preceded her in death. The pallbearers, all grandsons of the deceased, were Duane Thompson and Lewis Enerson of Oakland, California., Elwood Peterson of St. Paul, John Bergstedt, Gordon Fredrickson and Robert Traeger of Cannon Falls. Burial was at the church cemetery. Relatives and friends from a distance attending the funeral were Mrs. Anna Johnson, Florence Johnson and Delbert Peterson of Hayti, S. Dak., Duane Thompson, Lewis W. Enerson and Donald Or_ of Oakland, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Robert Johnson of Carver, Minn., Mrs. Louise Oken and son, Alvin, Mrs. C. Van Alstine, Mrs. William Riedy and children, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Shephard and daughter Judith, C.
