Peterson Source: Red Wing Daily Republican dated 9 Sep 1896 Peter J. Peterson died this morning at 6:30 0'clock, at the home of his son, Hon. J. W. Peterson at Vasa. He was born in Stojbygaard, Smaland, Sweden, on Nov. 17, 1806, and was therefore in his ninetieth year. In 1831 he married Miss Anna L. Peterson. She died in 1885. In 1856 he came to America, settling first in Chisago county. In 1866 he moved to Vasa and has resided with his son there ever since. He leaves four children to mourn his death. They are: Mrs. Magnussen, of Chisago City; Mrs. Mary Hawkanson, of this city; Mrs. Sophia Larson and Hon. J. W. Peterson, of Vasa. The funeral announcement will be given later. [Note: Peter was born with the name Johannisson, and was known by that name until late in life. His and his wife's tombstone gives the surname as Peterson but other sources refer to him as Johnson.]
