Marion Daniel Shutter, D.D., LL.D.; Volume I - Shutter (Historical); volume II - Biographical; volume III - Biographical JACOB ANDRESEN - Vol II, pg 509-510 Jacob Andresen, president and general manager of the Jacob Andresen Company, is one of the successful and popular business men in Minneapolis. He was born in Christiania, Norway, on the 15th of January, 1880, a son of Peter Andresen and Hannah Sofie (Lund) Andresen, likewise natives of that country. The father is engaged in the shoe business in Norway at the present time and is a prominent and highly esteemed citizen of the community in which he resides. Mrs. Andresen died in 1885. To Mr. and Mrs. Andresen four sons and two daughters were born, Jacob Andresen whose name introduces this review, being the second youngest child. Jacob Andresen received his education in the schools of his native country and learned the metal spinning trade prior to coming to the United States in 1901. Upon arriving in this country he took up residence in Chicago, where he lived for one year, and then came to Minneapolis. He followed the metal spinning trade on his own account, first at 324 Third avenue, South; then at 208 First avenue, South; and subsequently at 314 Fourth street, South. In 1910 he organized the present business, known as the Jacob Andresen Company, making lighting fixtures and parts. He is now located at 258 Third avenue, South, and he is enjoying an extensive wholesale trade, covering the Northwest. He established the business on a modest scale and it has grown into one of the representative business interests in Minneapolis and the state. As chief executive and general manager of the company his duties are manifold, and he discharges them with such efficiency as to command the respect of all. Aside from the manufacturing business, Mr. Andresen is a director in the Richfield National Bank. In Minneapolis, in 1904, was celebrated the marriage of Mr. Andresen and Miss Helga Dahl, a daughter of J. H. Dahl of Minneapolis. The Dahls are one of the oldest and most respected families of Minneapolis. To Mr. and Mrs. Andresen three children have been born: Hazel Sofie, Clarence Jacob and Harold Kenneth. Mr. Andresen votes with the republican party and he maintains an active interest in party affairs. He is interested in all educational movements and has served as treasurer of the school board of district No. 143 for several years. Fraternally Mr. Andresen is identified with the Masons, having attained the Mystic Shrine by both the York and Scottish rites. He is likewise identified with the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks. He is a member of the Odin Club and the Minneapolis Civic & Commerce Association, and his religious faith is indicated in his attendance of the Evangelical Lutheran church. He is secretary of the board of that church and a deacon in the Mt. Olivet church. During the World war Mr. Andresen was captain of the fifth district Liberty Loan drives and he ably assisted in the promotion of all other worthy-causes. Mr. Andresen spends his spare time in hunting and fishing and he is proficient in those sports.
