MAX THUE BENTZEN (Maximillian Thue Bentzen) - Vol II, pg 370-373
Max Thue Bentzen is prominent in the business circles of Minneapolis as vice
president and general manager of the Northwestern Metal Ware Company. He was
born in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1880, a son of O. Von Bentzen and Nathalie
Bentzen, also natives of that country. The father was an army officer and later
a prominent bank official in Copenhagen. To Mr. and Mrs. Bentzen two children
were born, a son and a daughter, Max Thue being the younger.
In the acquirement of his early education Max T. Bentzen attended private
schools and colleges of his native country and subsequently entered the Denmark
Military School, from which institution he was graduated in 1899, with the rank
of second lieutenant. He served in the Danish army thereafter until he resigned
and came to America in 1907. In this connection it may be mentioned that the
family has been prominent in the Danish army for several generations. On
arriving in the United States, Mr. Bentzen located in New York city, where he
engaged in the banking business until 1911, when he came to Minneapolis and here
turned his attention to the sale of sheet metal products, while subsequently he
began their manufacture. It was in 1916 that he organized the Northwestern Metal
Ware Company, of which he became vice presi­dent and general manager. Subsidiary
plants are operated in Portland, Oregon, and in Winnipeg, Canada. The success
which Mr. Bentzen has achieved is the result of his business ability.
At St. Louis, Missouri, on the 24th of September, 1908, Mr. Bentzen married Miss
Alice Baer, a daughter of Adolph Baer, a prominent manufacturer of that city.
Mrs. Bentzen is active in club and musical circles. The religious faith of Mr.
Bentzen is that of the Lutheran church and fraternally he is a Scottish Rite
Mason. He is a member of the Odin Club and the Minnetonka Country Club

NOTE: The biography states that he emigrated in 1907, however Ellis Island
records have him arriving in 13 Jul 1905 at the age of 25; Ship Deutschland
leaving from the port of Cuxhaven, Hamburg, Germany.
