Although one of the more recent additions to the medical fraternity of
Minne­apolis, Dr. John F. Curtin has already won a well established position in
his profession and has demonstrated his skill in the treatment of diseases of
the eye, ear, nose and throat, in which he is specializing. He was born in
Lawrence, Massachusetts, October 17, 1889, and is a son of John and Ellen
(Lamkey) Curtin, natives of Canada.
In the acquirement of an education John F. Curtin attended the public schools of
Lawrence, Massachusetts, and Holy Cross Academy at Worcester, that state, from
which he won the A. B. degree. His professional training was obtained in the
Harvard Medical School, from which he was graduated in 1915, and he then spent
sixteen months as an interne at the General Hospital at Hartford, Connecticut,
and afterward was for two and a half years surgeon at the Manhattan Eye, Ear &
Throat Hospital of New York city. In 1918 he enlisted for service in the World
war, joining the Medical Corps of the United States army. He was commissioned a
first lieutenant and was sent to Oglethorpe, Georgia, as an instructor in ear,
nose and throat surgery. In April, 1920, he came to Minneapolis, opening an
office in the La Salle building, and he is establishing a good practice in this
city. He specializes in the treatment of diseases pertaining to the eye, ear,
nose and throat, in which he is very skillful, and has charge of eye, ear and
nose service at Asbury Hospital, known as United States Veterans Hospital, No.
68. He is a deep and earnest student of his profession and utilizes every
possible opportunity to promote his knowledge and increase his efficiency.
On the 14th of October, 1920, Dr. Curtin was united in marriage to Miss Mae
Annah Sandt of Winona. Minnesota, and they have become the parents of a son,
John Sandt. Dr. Curtin is a member of the Oliver Wendell Holmes Society of
Harvard and the Minneapolis Automobile Club, and his professional connections
are with the Hennepin County and Minnesota State Medical Societies. He is
devoted to his profession, being deeply interested in its scientific and
humanitarian phases, and his laudable ambition, enterprise and ability are
bringing him rapidly to the front in his chosen vocation.
