Tom Davis, attorney at law, has been identified with the Minnesota bar for two
decades and is now successfully engaged in the practice of law in Minneapolis,
having won a well established position in professional circles of the city. He
is one of Minne­sota's native sons and was born February 18, 1877. He was
graduated from the high school at Marshall, this state, in 1894, and the next
two years were spent as a student at Macalester College. He then began reading
law, pursuing his studies in the offices and under the instruction of M. E.
Mathews and Virgil B. Seward, well known attorneys of Marshall, and in November,
1901, was admitted to the Minnesota bar. He entered into practice at Marshall
and his professional ability soon won recognition on the part of his fellow
townsmen, who called him to public offices of honor and trust. In 1902 he was
elected county attorney of Lyon county on the republican ticket and from 1911
until 1913 served as mayor of Marshall. In November, 1916, he was chosen to
represent his district in the state legislature and was a member of the session
of 1917. In the follow­ing year he was a candidate for the office of attorney
general of the state on the inde­pendent ticket and received the endorsement of
the labor union and also of the farmers but met defeat at the polls. He
successfully practiced law at Marshall from 1902 until 1919 and then came to
Minneapolis, where he has since followed his profession. In 1908 Mr. Davis
formed a partnership with E. A. Michel, who had read law in his office for two
years previous to that time, and this relationship has since been maintained.
They specialize in trial law and devote the greater part of their attention to
cases involving the federal employers' liability law and safety appliance acts.
They have been very successful in this field, winning many verdicts favorable to
the interests of their clients, and their professional services are in constant
demand.
On the 26th of June, 1906, Mr. Davis married Miss Mabel Johnson of Chetek,
Wis­consin, and they have become the parents of two daughters, Ethel Mabel and
Donna Mae. Mr. Davis is a member of the Knox Presbyterian church and a
progressive republican in his political views. He is ever ready to give his
support to measures for the promotion of the public welfare and is a lover of
all outdoor sports, being particularly fond of base­ball. He is connected with
the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks and is a charter member of Wilmar Lodge,
No. 952, of which he has been exalted ruler, and he is also Identified with the
Knights of Pythias and the Superior Golf Club. The vital questions of government
and of national policy are of deep interest to him and upon all such he is well
informed, so that he is able to support his position by intelligent argument.
His ability has developed with the passing years, and wisely and conscientiously
utilizing the talents with which nature has endowed him, he has won a prominent
position in his chosen calling, being recognized as one of the leading attorneys
of the city.
