DELANEY - Vol. II, pg 497 For seventeen years D. M. Delaney, manager of the Dyckman Hotel in Minneapolis, has been engaged in the hotel business, and in this connection has achieved substantial success. A native of Missouri, he was born in St. Joseph, in which community he received his early schooling. At an early age he put his textbooks aside and entered the hotel business, becoming an employe of Mr. Neipp at the Hotel Robidoux. For four years he remained in the employ of that hotel, advancing from one position to another and taking every opportunity offered him to learn the business, and at the termination of that time he removed to Burlington, Iowa, becoming connected with the Burlington Hotel for a time. Some two years later he located in Chicago, accepting a position with the Grand Pacific Hotel, and after six years with that house was for two years steward at the Illinois Athletic Club, and then became associated with the Congress Hotel. At the end of two years Mr. Neipp purchased the Dyckman Hotel in Minneapolis, becoming owner on the 15th of April, 1920, and he offered Mr. Delaney the management of this enterprise. Mr. Delaney was quick to recognize his opportunity, accepted it, and has since been active in this capacity. He has proved the right man for the place and under his management the hotel is enjoying a high class and extensive patronage. The Dyckman Hotel contains three hundred well appointed rooms and has a staff of some one hundred and fifty-five employes. A man of genial and pleasing personality, Mr. Delaney has made many friends for the hotel and his patrons are always sure of every comfort possible. He has made this his life work and his success is the result of familiarizing himself with the business in every detail and employing the most advanced and progressive methods in its conduct. Politically Mr. Delaney gives his allegiance to the republican party and the principles for which it stands. He is interested in progressive citizenship and his cooperation can always be counted upon to further measures for the general good. Fraternally he is identified with the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, holding membership in Lodge No. 4, of Chicago, and he has attained the third degree in the Knights of Columbus, and he is a consistent communicant of the Catholic church. Along strictly business lines he is identified with the Northwestern Hotel Men's Association, and as a public-spirited citizen he is active in the Civic & Commerce Association. For recreation from his business interests Mr. Delaney turns to the great outdoors and is fond of all sports
