DENNY - Vol II, pg 121-122 A representative of one of America's oldest and most prominent families is Charles M. Denny, president of the Denny Land Company here. He was born in Orange county, Indiana, and received his early education in the public schools of his birthplace. In due time he entered Northwestern University and, after completing his education, made his initial step into the business world in the life insurance business. He was active in that connection for five years, at the termination of which time he removed to South Dakota and entered the real estate business as secretary of the G. H. Perry Land Company at Sioux Falls, that state. He later resigned his position with that company to accept a like position with the Everett-Denny Land Company, and in 1912 he determined to engage in the real estate business on his own account. He subsequently organized the Denny Land Company in South Dakota and the following year moved to Minneapolis, establishing his headquarters here, where he has since remained. The Denny Land Company is a close corporation, of which Charles M. Denny is the president, and although for some time the company dealt extensively in South Dakota lands, it now operates entirely in Minnesota properties. Mr. Denny is a practical business man, with keen discrimination and excellent executive ability, and the high and honorable methods which he employs in the conduct of his business have won for him the confidence and respect of all with whom he has come into contact. On the 3d of May, 1892, was celebrated the marriage of Mr. Denny to Miss Mabel Sheldon and to their union two children have been born: Charles M., Jr., and Alice Bristol. Charles M. Denny, Jr., enlisted in the American army for service in the World war, when in his senior year at the University of Minnesota. He was sent to the Officers' Training Camp at Fort Snelling and was there commissioned a second lieutenant. On the 1st of January, 1918, he sailed for France and subsequently he became first lieutenant in the Seventeenth United States Field Artillery. He was in active service throughout the Chateau Thierry, Meuse and Argonne offensives and after the armistice was signed was made instructor in the radio department of the American Artillery School at Le Valdahon, France. On the first of July, 1919, he returned to the United States and was mustered out of the service. He is now engaged in the general insurance business here under the firm name of Long-Denny Agency. Alice Bristol is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, having received the B. S. degree in 1918. She is a very charming young woman and prominent in the club and social circles of this city. She was married in May, 1922, to Paul S. Taylor of this city. Mr. Denny has always given his political endorsement to the republican party and although he has never sought nor desired public preferment, he is a close student of the living issues of the day and takes a prominent part in all movements for the improvement of the general welfare. Fraternally he is identified with the Delta Upsilon, a national social college fraternity of high standing, and socially he is identified with the Minneapolis Athletic Club. There is no phase of the real estate business with which Mr. Denny is not familiar and during the many years he has been active in that connection he has made many friends and achieved well-merited success.
