(William R. Doctor) - Vol II, pg 617-618 Dr. W. R. Doctor, a well known physician and surgeon, is enjoying an extensive and representative practice in Minneapolis, where he has resided since September, 1919. He is a veteran of the World war, having served with the Thirty-second Division with the rank of captain. Dr. W. R. Doctor was born in the northwestern part of the state of Iowa on the 4th of February, 1887, a son of Michael and Harriet (Schrader) Doctor. In the acquirement of his preliminary education W. R. Doctor attended the public schools of his native state and subsequently enrolled in Marquette University at Milwaukee, taking up the study of medicine. He was graduated from that institution with the M. D. degree in the class of 1914, and practiced medicine in Wisconsin until the entrance of the United States into the World war. He was one of the first to volunteer his services to the government and he enlisted in the One Hundred and Twenty-eighth Infantry, Thirty-second Division, which division distinguished itself in the war and participated in more strategic engagements than any other American division. At the time of his enlistment Dr. Doctor had a wife and son, but he voluntarily went to the front for his country. The Doctor was first sent to Camp Douglas, Wisconsin, and from there to Camp McArthur, Waco, Texas. He remained at the latter camp for some time and was then sent to Camp Merritt, New Jersey, and thence overseas. His division landed at Brest and with his regiment he was ordered to Alsace. There they held trenches from May until July, 1918, when they went to Chateau Thierry as a part of the American army. He was active in the battle of Juvigny and from there went into the Meuse and Argonne offensive, the latter part of September. The Thirty-second Division suffered terrible losses and immortalized itself and its heroic dead. The division was on the battle line on the Meuse at the time the armistice was signed and following the armistice what was left of the division was sent into Germany with the Army of Occupation. The division held many of the outposts during its stay in that country and in May, 1919, was finally ordered home. Dr. Doctor was a first lieutenant in the Medical Corps of his regiment until April, 1919, when he was promoted to the rank of captain, with which rank he was honorably discharged at Camp Grant, on the 17th of May, 1919. In September of that year he came to Minneapolis and established offices at No. 3004 Hennepin avenue for the practice of his chosen profession. Although he has resided here but a short time he has built up an extensive and important patronage and is readily conceded a place among the foremost physicians and surgeons of this city. His success is well merited, for he holds to the highest ethics in the practice of his profession, to which he has brought thorougn training and invaluable experience received in the World war. On the 20th of March, 1913, at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was celebrated the marriage of Dr. Doctor to Miss Esther Schrader, and they have a son, Robert. Mrs. Doctor was active in Red Cross work during the war and is a woman of much culture and refinement, being socially prominent. The political allegiance of Dr. Doctor is given to the republican party and although he is not active in party affairs he is ever cognizant of the duties and responsibilities as well as the privileges of citizenship and his aid can always be counted upon in the furtherance of any movement he deems essential to the development and improvement of his ccmmunity. Along strictly professional lines he holds membership in the Hennepin County Medical Society and the American Medical Association. He is an active member of the Lions Club, that body of representative Minneapolis citizens, and socially he is connected with the Automobile, Minneapolis Athletic and Minnetonka Golf clubs.
