THORE EGGEN - Vol II, pg 317-318 Since 1920 Rev. Thore Eggen has been president and manager of the Lutheran Brotherhood, fraternal insurance, with offices in the Security building. A native of Norway, his birth occurred at Tolgen, on the 6th of July, 1859, a son of Nels and Marit (Nygaard) Eggen, likewise natives of that country. They came to the United States in 1870 and located at Rushford, Fillmore county, Minnesota, where they resided two years. At the termination of that time they removed to Barren county, Wisconsin, where Nels Eggen acquired a quarter section of government land, which he cultivated and brought to a high state of improvement. He resided on the home farm until his demise in 1908. Mrs. Eggen's demise occurred in 1874. To their union five sons and four daughters were born, Rev. Thore, whose name introduces this review, being the second in order of birth. The public schools of Rushford afforded Thore Eggen his early education and subsequently he enrolled in Luther College at Decorah, Iowa, from which institution he was graduated with the A. B. degree in 1879. In early life he determined to enter the ministry and therefore in 1879 he entered the Lutheran Seminary at Madison, Wisconsin, a theological seminary, and was graduated therefrom with the B. D. degree in 1882. For the following ten years he was pastor of a church in Decorah, Iowa, and then moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota, where he was in charge two years. For eleven and one-half years he held a pastorate at Madison, Wisconsin, and in 1906 he came to Minneapolis as editor of the Norwegian paper, the Lutheraneren, a publication of the Lutheran church. He was active in that capacity fourteen years, resigning in 1920 to become president and manager of the Lutheran Brotherhood, fraternal in surance, and he has well appointed offices in the Security building. He is essentially the man for the place and he is honored and respected wherever his name is known and ranks as one of the popular citizens of Minneapolis. Mr. Eggen is likewise president of the United Church Hospital Association, operating Fairview and Thomas hospitals. In Coon Valley, Wisconsin, on the 26th of August, 1882, was celebrated the marriage of Mr. Eggen to Miss Regina Neperud, a daughter of Nels and Martha Neperud, Norwegian people who settled in this section of the country at an early date. In his political views Mr. Eggen is a republican. Although he is not particularly active along party lines he is ever cognizant of the duties and responsibilities as well as the privileges of citizenship and his influence is ever on the side of advancement and improvement. He is an active member of the Norwegian Lutheran Pastors' Association and he holds membership in the Odin Club. For recreation he turns to golf and gymnasium work. Mr. Eggen enjoys the confidence and esteem of all with whom he comes into contact. He is one of the public-spirited, enterprising citizens of Minneapolis whose personal interests are at all times identical with those of the community at large, in the promotion of which he seems tireless.
