His birth occurred on the 28th of January, 1877, a son of Peter and Anna (Loitved) Enmark. Peter Enmark was born in Denmark, as was his wife, and came to this country in 1871, locating in Iowa. He was one of the pioneers of that state and resided there for ten years, at the termination of which time he went to North Dakota as an engineer in a flour mill at Grafton. He was thus employed until 1896, when he went to St. Paul, where he is now living at the age of seventy-eight years, and is still actively engaged in business. His wife's father, Hans Loitved, was a successful farmer in Denmark, in which country he spent his life. The public schools of Grafton afforded Ira Enmark his early education and he spent two years in the local high school. After putting his textbooks aside he went to work in a grocery store for a year or more and subsequently engaged in the bicycle business on his own account. For one year he conducted a successful business in Grafton and then went to St. Paul with his father, establishing an enterprise there. In 1909 he came to Minneapolis and in 1909 accepted the agency for the Excelsior motorcycle. Subsequently he became agent for the Henderson, Indian and Cleveland Excelsior, which motorcycles he is now handling, together with a full line of bicycles. He has built up an extensive and ever-increasing trade and is numbered among the foremost business men of the city. Honesty and integrity have governed him in all transactions and he well merits the confidence and esteem in which he is held by his fellowmen. He is a man of affluence and owns a beautiful home in this city, valued at eight thousand dollars, and he has extensive financial interests. Mr. Enmark has never married. His religious faith is that of the Lutheran and fraternally he is identified with the Woodmen of America and the Maccabees 2-St. Paul, and the Yeomen at Minneapolis. His political allegiance has been given to the republican party since age conferred upon him the right of franchise. He is on of the most energetic and resourceful promoters of the city's advancement and while he is averse to public life, he is always a zealous and practical factor in the effort made to secure good government for his city and state. He is in every sense of the word a self-made man and the success he has achieved is attributable to his own labors and enterprise. Mr. Enmark is essentially an outdoor man and is interested in all sports, his particular hobby being motorcycle racing.
