M. FALCONER (Fred M. Falconer) The career of F. M. Falconer is another exemplification of the good old American teaching that in this country any boy, no matter how humble his beginnings, can achieve success by perseverance and industry. Once a newsboy on the streets of Minneapolis, Mr. Falconer is now the sole owner of a prosperous industrial concern, the Falconer Laundry. F. M. Falconer was born in 1874, in Oxford county, Ontario, Canada, and is the son of James A. and Zillah (Howell) Falconer. His parents were natives of Canada, but his father was of Scottish descent and his mother's family had come from England. When he was but ten years old the family moved to Minneapolis, where he was enrolled in the public schools. Although only a lad, he contributed to the family income by selling papers. At that time the "newsies" were required to obtain a license and as evidence of having done so wore an acorn-shaped badge. Eventually the father became engaged in the laundry business, operating the Falconer Laundry at No. 403 Fifth avenue South, and with his father F. M. Falconer received his early training in this industry. The laundry was later moved to the Labor Temple and subsequently sold out, the funds thus received being invested in the Hoosier Laundry, at Second avenue and Fifth street. In 1910 this laundry was moved to its present address, No. 410 South Eleventh street, where it is known as the Falconer Laundry. A long experience in this work has acquainted Mr. Falconer with every detail of the business he now directs, and has enabled him to achieve the excellence of service for which he is known. While he has never taken any active part in politics, Mr. Falconer is counted a good republican and casts his vote with that party. He has never married and finds his social life in the activities of the various organizations to which he belongs. Among these are the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, the Minneapolis Athletic Club, the Interlachen Country Club, and the Automobile Club of Minneapolis. He is an active Mason and a member of the St. John's Chapter, R. A. M., Zion Commandery, and Zuhrah Temple of the Mystic Shrine.
