He was born in Missouri and is the son of Andrew and Rose (Snyder) Fawcett. His father is a native of New York state, where he lived for many years near Geneva. He graduated from the Albany Law School in 1870 and shortly afterward went west to Missouri, where he married Rose Snyder, a Missourian by birth, whose father had been one of the pioneers in the state, coming to the country in 1853. Their son, Andrew, spent his boyhood on a farm and obtained his elementary education in the rural schools. When he was sixteen years of age he went to Kansas City, where he took the high school course, following which he came to Minneapolis to enter the University of Minnesota. Here he registered for the academic course in 1901, and having successfully completed this work continued his studies in the law school, from which he graduated in 1908 with the bachelor of laws degree. He at once took his examinations and was admitted to the Minnesota bar. Mr. Fawcett decided to remain in this city for the practice of his profession and accordingly opened a law office, which is now located at 700 National Bank building. He has never entered into a partnership, preferring to practice alone under his own name. While he has a good general practice he has made a special study of real estate law and does most of his work along that line. He is regarded as an expert in land titles. Industry, integrity and ability have been the chief factors in his success. No doubt the habits of hard work and early rising that traditionally are the result of farm training, played their part in forming his character. It is certain that as a youth he already possessed determination and ambition, for he worked his way through school, selling newspapers as a high school student and depending upon his own resources for his support all through his college career. His subsequent success in the legal profession has not only been merited, but has proved that the sacrifices he made as a student were decidedly worth while. In this city occurred the marriage of Mr. Fawcett and Miss Helen Rice, whose girlhood home was in Minneapolis. They have become the parents of two children: Mary Ellen and Irene.
