Flaten) - Vol II, pg 421-422 While advancement at the bar is proverbially slow, M. G. Flaten has made substantial progress in his profession and although one of the younger members of the legal fraternity of Minneapolis, he has already demonstrated his ability to cope with the intricate problems of the law and to arrive at correct deductions from the facts at hand. He was born in Moorhead, Minnesota, and after completing the public school curriculum attended Fargo College, while he also spent two years as a student at the University of Minnesota, in which he finished his academic course. He then entered the College of Law of the same institution, from which he was graduated in 1920, and in the same year was admitted to the bar by the supreme court of the state, establishing his offices at No. 6 East Lake street. He engages in general practice, conducting his law business in accordance with the highest standards of professional ethics, and is rapidly building up a good clientele. He is an earnest and discriminating student, well versed in the principles of Jurisprudence, and clear and concise in his presentation of a case. On the 10th of November, 1920, Mr. Flaten was united in marriage to Miss Winifred MacDonald, a daughter of Angus MacDonald, a prominent resident of Duluth, Minnesota. Mr. and Mrs. Flaten have a daughter, Catherine Julia. Mr. Platen is an Episcopalian in religious faith and his political support is given to the republican party. In matters of citizenship he is loyal, patriotic and public-spirited and in 1916 he saw service on the Mexican border as a member of the Light Field Artillery. He is a veteran of the World war and was sent to France with the artillery forces, receiving his discharge in January, 1919. He is a member of the Minneapolis and Hennepin County Bar associations, a member of the American Legion, the Lake Street District Association of Commerce and Phi Sigma Kappa and Phi Delta Phi, the last named organization being a legal fraternity. While attending the University he took an active part in athletic sports and was made rooter king. To his chosen life work he gives his undivided attention, and wisely utilizing the talents with which nature has endowed him, he is steadily working his way upward in his profession, while his enterprise, ability and adherence to high ideals have won for him the esteem of his fellow practitioners and also of the general public.
