Gooch, president and treasurer of the Minnekota Elevator Company, with offices in the Chamber of Commerce building at Minneapolis, was born in Cen-tralia, Missouri, August 26, 1882, and is a son of Warren H. and Laura (Smith) Gooch. The family comes of English ancestry and was founded in Virginia, whence removal was made by representatives of the name to Kentucky. The father was born in that state, while the mother was a native of Ontario, Canada. Walter H. Gooch obtained his education in public schools and a business college, passing through consecutive grades to his graduation from high school, after which he received his commercial training. He dates his residence in Minneapolis from July, 1901, and for twenty-two years has been engaged in the grain trade in this city. He was first associated with Whallon, Case & Company for a period of five years and in 1906 he became one of the organizers of the Minnekota Elevator Company. He was elected vice president and treasurer of the company and continued thus to serve until October, 1922, when he was elected to the presidency, retaining his position as treasurer. In St. Mark's church in Minneapolis, on the 14th of October, 1911, occurred the marriage of Mr. Gooch to Miss Marion Pryor, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Pryor of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Gooch have one son, Gordon. The parents are members of St. Mark's Episcopal church and Mr. Gooch gives his political support to the republican party. He holds membership in the Minneapolis Club, the Minikahda Club and the University Club of St. Paul and he is also identified with the Civic & Commerce Asso­ciation of Minneapolis and with the Chamber of Commerce, giving hearty cooperation to all those plans and projects which have as their basic element the progress and improvement of the city.
