Marion Daniel Shutter, D.D., LL.D.; Volume I - Shutter (Historical); volume II - Biographical; volume III - Biographical IRVING R. GOODRIDGE - Vol II, pg 746 Irving R. Goodridge, secretary-treasurer of the Central Lumber Company of Minneapolis, has been identified with this line of business from the age of twenty and his influence is one of broadening activity and strength in the field in which he is operating. He was born at Eden, Maine, May 19, 1862, and his parents, Uriah and Hannah T. (Emery) Goodridge, were also natives of the Pine Tree state. The Goodridge family is of English origin and was established in Maine in 1636. Representatives of the Emery family also emigrated from England to America about the same time and members of both families participated in the Revolutionary war. Henry Goodridge was a shipbuilder and his son Noah, the grandfather of the subject of this review, engaged in the practice of medicine. The public schools of Eden, Maine, and Rochester, New York, afforded Irving R. Goodridge his educational opportunities and on the 27th of December, 1882, he arrived in Minneapolis, entering the employ of the firm of N. P. Clarke & Company, lumber dealers. He remained with that concern for about five years, working for them in this city and in Winnipeg, Canada, and he then became a member of the firm of Goodridge, Hanscom & Company, sash and door manufacturers. He filled the office of secretary until the business was sold and in 1887 accepted th'e position of bookkeeper for the Carpenter & Adams Company, sash and door jobbers. Subsequently the style of Carpenter Brothers & Company was adopted and the undertaking was continued under that style until 1893, when the present form of the Carpenter-Lamb Company was assumed. Mr. Goodridge was made secretary at that time and has been retained in that office. In 1901 he became a stockholder of the Central Lumber Company and in January of that year was elected secretary and treasurer, which offices he now occupies, and he is also serving in a similar capacity with the F. H. Carpenter Lumber Company. He formerly served as vice president of the Northwestern Lumbermen's Association, of which he is now a director, and he is also a stockholder in the First National Bank of Minneapolis. On the 17th of January, 1894, Mr. Goodridge was united in marriage to Miss Gertrude Hilger, a daughter of John P. Hilger. Mr. Goodridge was at one time a member of Company I, First Regiment, Minnesota National Guard. He, is connected with the Minneapolis Club, the Lafayette Club and the Minneapolis Automobile Club. He ranks with the foremost representatives of the lumber industry in this city and among those with whom business or social relations have brought him into contact he is held in the highest esteem.
