Marion Daniel Shutter, D.D., LL.D.; Volume I - Shutter (Historical); volume II - Biographical; volume III - Biographical EARLE RUSSELL HARE, M. D. - Vol II, pg 401 For twenty-two years Dr. Earle Russell Hare has engaged in the practice of medicine in Minnesota, giving undivided attention to the duties of the profession and keeping at all times in touch with the trend of professional thought, progress and research. A native of Ohio, he was born in Summerfield, on the 26th of May, 1872, his parents being John W. and Mary Cornelia (Taylor) Hare. While spending his youthful days under the parental roof he acquired his education in the public schools of Summer-field, Ohio, and at Kansas City, Missouri, until he had completed the high school course at the latter place, with the class of June, 1890. For more advanced educational training he entered the Iowa Wesleyan University and is numbered among its alumni of June, 1894, at which time he won the Bachelor of Arts degree. His review of the broad field of business, with its limitless opportunities along agricultural, industrial, commercial and professional lines, led him to the determination to become a physician and surgeon and in preparation therefor he entered the medical department of the University of Minnesota in 1896, and pursued the regular four years course, winning his M. D. degree in June, 1900. Since that time he has continuously engaged in practice in Minneapolis, his patronage steadily growing in volume and importance as the years have gone by, as he has demonstrated his marked ability to cope with the intricate and involved problems that continually confront the physician and surgeon. He has not only been very successful in his practice, but has also become widely known as an educator in the line of his profession, serving for many years as instructor in anatomy and surgery in the State University. In later years he has more and more concentrated his efforts upon surgery and in this field has gained an eminent position. He is thoroughly familiar with anatomy and the component parts of the human body, together with the onslaught made upon it by disease, and in emergency he is cool and collected, meeting the responsibilities of the profession in a most adequate way. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and he improves every opportunity to advance his efficiency and at all times keeps abreast with the trend of modern thought and progress through his connection with the Hennepin County Medical Association, the Minnesota State Medical Society, the American Medical Association, the Minnesota Pathological Society, the Minnesota Academy of Medicine and the Association of American Anatomists. Mr. Hare was married in 1900 to Maude Wilson, a daughter of Shepherd Wilson of Cedar Falls, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Hare have one son, Horace B., who is now a student.
