Haymes was a native of Canada, born in the small village of Wainfleet, Ontario, on June 16, 1886. He is the elder son of Robert and Mary (Richter) Haymes, the former a native of England and the latter of Germany. In the acquirement of his early education Charles S. Haymes attended the public schools of his birthplace and the high school at Welland, Ontario, later entering the employ of Cluett, Peabody & Company, Troy, New York, where he remained for a period of three years, coming to Minneapolis in 1908, in the capacity of office and credit man­ager for this company. Being impressed with the importance of Minneapolis as the financial and business center for the great Northwest, and its future growth, Mr. Haymes decided to enter the real estate field, which particularly appealed to him as a most profitable and agree­able line of endeavor. He then became associated with the firm of Yates & Son. shortly thereafter entering business on his own account, specializing in loop business property, in which he has become recognized as an expert and in which line his activity has met with large success, becoming an active member of the Minneapolis Real Estate Board, and qualifying as a realtor of established reputation, governed by principles of honesty and integrity which have earned for him the respect and confidence of a large acquaint­ance and friendship. Mr. Haymes was married in October, the year of 1919, to Hester Marion Brown, a daughter of Edwin B. and Marion Brown, old and respected residents of Minneapolis, making their home at No. 2220 Irving avenue South. Mr. Haymes has always followed an independent course in politics, giving his sup­port without party prejudice to the individual believed to be best fitted for office. His religious faith is that of the Baptist denomination. Mr. Haymes is a member of the Minneapolis Athletic Club and Minneapolis Automobile Club, as well as being identified with such local organizations as have for their purpose the best interests of the city and state. Mr. Haymes is a member of the Masonic Order, Lodge No. 19, Minneapolis. Aside from business Mr. Haymes is an ardent exponent of outdoor as well as indoor exercise and sports, being particularly interested in fishing and shooting.
