Head has been resident partner of the Marsh & McLennan Fire Insurance Company and in this connection has become well known. He is de­scended from an old and honored American family, his paternal ancestors being prom­inently identified with the history of the New England states. His parents were Newell S. and Mary Elizabeth (Douglas) Head. Fred S. Head was born on a farm near Plainview, Minnesota, February 19, 1874, his father being there engaged in teaching school at that time. The son received his early education in the district schools of his native community and in the public schools of Fargo, North Dakota. He later attended high school in Minneapolis, to which city his family had moved, his father having entered the general insurance business here. After graduating from the high school he enrolled in the University of Minnesota, taking a general course. In 1893 he withdrew from this institution, becoming associated with the firm of Ames & Head, of which firm his father was a partner. In 1910 Mr. Head accepted his present position, becoming resident partner of Marsh & McLennan, one of the largest insurance organizations in the United States. On the 15th of September, 1898, occurred the marriage of Mr. Head to Miss Mary Elizabeth Dyer, a native of Lansing, Michigan, whose family came from Maine. Mr. and Mrs. Head have one son, John Wakefield, who is fifteen years of age and now a student. Mr. Head is a member of the Civic & Commerce Association and socially is iden­tified with the Minneapolis, Minneapolis. Athletic, Interlachen Golf, Lincoln and Automobile clubs.
