Marion Daniel Shutter, D.D., LL.D.; Volume I - Shutter (Historical); volume II - Biographical; volume III - Biographical WILLIAM R. HEFLEY - Vol II, pg 73-74 William R. Hefley, manager of the C. H. Robinson Company of Minneapolis, is one of this city's leading business men. He was born in Gadsden, Tennessee, on the 28th of April, 1890, a son of Frank P. and Mary (Barrett) Hefley. His father, who died at the age of fifty-eight years, was a pioneer fruit grower of Tennessee. Mrs. Hefley died in her thirty-sixth year. In the acquirement of his early education William R. Hefley attended the country school at Union Grove, Tennessee, and was graduated from the Humboldt high school in 1908. He then took a course in law at the Bryant Law School in Louisville, Kentucky. After putting his textbooks aside, in 1909, he sold fruit at Humboldt, Tennessee, and then became associated with L. M. Cozart & Company of Louisville, Kentucky. He remained in their employ until July, 1910, when he was made inspector of fruits for the firm of Chase & Company of Florida. He was active in that connection for some time and was subsequently transferred to Louisville, Kentucky, in charge of their branch office. In January, 1912, Mr. Hefley came to Minneapolis and opened branch offices for the same firm. In August, 1916, the present firm and the Northwestern Fruit Distributors were consolidated and he was made manager of the business, which position he now holds. Mr. Hefley is well qualified to discharge the duties of this important position, for there is no phase of the fruit industry with which he is not familiar. He is a man of splendid executive ability, progressive and liberal in his ideas, and he has been a dominant factor in the continued growth of the company with which he is associated. On the 1st of May, 1915, in Minneapolis, was celebrated the marriage of Mr. Hefley to Miss Myrle Kitsman, a daughter of L. E. Kitsman, a prominent resident of this city. Mr. Kitsman will soon retire from active business life. He is a well known interior decorator and stands high in this city for his integrity and sterling worth. Mr. Hefley has always been a stanch supporter of the democratic party and the principles for which it stands. Although he has never sought nor desired public preferment, he is ever cognizant of the duties and responsibilities as well as the privileges of good citizenship and his aid can always be counted upon in the furtherance of any movement for the upbuilding of the community. He has no fraternal affiliations, neither does he belong to any clubs nor social organizations. During the World war Mr. Hefley gave generously of his time and means to the government. He was prominent in all bond drives and in the promotion of Red Cross activities.
