HILL - Vol II, pg 731 One of the prominent young business men of Minneapolis who has steadily worked his way to a position of importance, is Allan J. Hill, a director of the Janney, Semple, Hill Company. He was born in this city, on the 14th of September, 1887, a son of Horace M. and Mary (Whitmore) Hill. In the acquirement of his education Allan J. Hill attended the common schools of Minneapolis and was graduated from Central high school. He then enrolled in Haverford University at Haverford, Pennsylvania, where he took a scientific course, graduating from that institution with the class of 1909. He immediately returned to Minneapolis and entered the employ of the Janney, Semple, Hill Company, of which his father is a member. He has been with this company since he was twenty-one years of age and his close application to business and innate ability have won for him constant promotion. He is the buyer of sporting goods and automobile supplies and since 1914 has been a director of the company. Minneapolis numbers him among her most progressive and representative young business men. Mr. Hill is interested in civic affairs and is never too busy to give his aid in the. furtherance of any movement for the development and improvement of the city. He is essentially an outdoor man. During his college days he participated in all athletics and was particularly prominent as a player of baseball, handball and hockey, and is still a devotee of those sports. He is also a well known yachtsman, belonging to the Minnetonka Yacht Club, and is the owner of the Tornado. Mr. Hill is a member of the Minneapolis Athletic Club and other organizations, being very popular in business and social circles of this city.
