JACOBSON Few men are more prominent or more widely known in the enterprising city of Minneapolis than William M. Jacobson. He has been an important factor in business circles for years and is now president of the Pyramid Oil Company and associated with other enterprises of an important nature. He was born in Fenton, Iowa, a son of Albert and Bertha (Illingson) Jacobson, both natives of Norway. They came to the United States at an early age with their respective parents and were married here. William M. Jacobson attended the public schools of his birthplace and subsequently entered Luther College at Decorah, Iowa. After putting his textbooks aside he engaged in banking at Fenton, that state, entering the Ringsted Bank there as cashier. His close application to the thing at hand, his ability and ambition, won for him rapid promotion and subsequently he became president of the institution, which important position he held for ten years. He then came to Minnesota and organized the Manhattan Oil & Linseed Company at St. Paul. Later he sold out to some New York people. During the time he was active in the conduct of that business he organized the American Oil & Tank Line Company with refineries in Oklahoma, also the Crude Oil Marketing Company in Texas. He controlled all three companies at the same time and disposed of them all to the New York syndicate. In April, 1920, he purchased the H. K. Stahl Grease Company in the Midway and he also purchased the Van Tilburg Oil Company, combining the two with the Pyramid Oil Company. He is president of the Pyramid Oil Company and of the Ringsted State Bank; vice president of the Odin State Bank, Odin, Minnesota; vice president of the Minnesota Transfer State Bank at St. Paul; and a director of the New Liberty Washing-Machine Company. Mr. Jacobson's life has been one of continuous activity and the success he enjoys is the result of his own intelligently directed efforts. The difficulties which he has had to encounter in his own business career have made him always ready to extend a helping hand to those who try to aid themselves and in his business he rewards faithful service on the part of his employes, when opportunity offers. In 1903 was celebrated the marriage of Mr. Jacobson and Miss Anna Wolsness and to their union two children have been born: Alonzo E. and Lucile T. The son is a student at Luther College and the daughter is attending the University of Minnesota. Mrs. Jacobson is a woman of much culture and refinement and is prominent in club and social circles. Since attaining his majority Mr. Jacobson has given his stanch support to the republican party and the principles for which it stands. Fraternally he is identified with the Masons, holding membership in Triune Lodge, No. 190, Palmyra Chapter, Paladin Commandery, and Osman Temple of the Mystic Shrine at St. Paul. His religious faith is that of the Lutheran church and he is a generous contributor to its support. Socially Mr. Jacobson is identified with the Odin Club, Minneapolis Athletic Club, Minneapolis Auto Club and the Midland Hills Golf Club. For recreation from his manifold business duties he turns to the great outdoors and he is particularly fond of hunting and fishing.
