JOHNSON A representative of one of Minneapolis' oldest and most representative families is Arthur B. Johnson, whose birth occurred here on the 13th of February, 1889, a son of Frank and Anna (Nelson) Johnson. His father was likewise born here and was for many years prominent in the business life of the city. In the acquirement of his early education Arthur B. Johnson attended the public schools of this city and after graduating from the South high school, enrolled in the University of Minnesota. There he took an academic course, but withdrew before its completion to enter the insurance business. He became associated with the Springfield Fire & Marine Insurance Company, an association he maintained for six years. He then became connected with the Hartford Fire Insurance Company, which he still represents. He is one of the most valued employes of the company and has been a dominant factor in its continued growth in this section of the country. In 1920 he formed the Arthur B. Johnson Company, a local insurance agency, of which he is president. He handles all kinds of insurance except life. On the 24th of April, 1922, occurred the marriage of Mr. Johnson to Miss Esther Sylow, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter H. Sylow, prominent residents of Minneapolis. Mrs. Johnson is a woman of culture and refinement and she takes a prominent part in the club and social circles of this city. Since attaining his majority Mr. Johnson has been a stanch supporter of the republican party and the principles for which it stands. Although he takes an active interest in party councils, he has never sought nor desired public office, preferring to devote his entire time and attention to his insurance business. Soon after the entrance of the United States into the World war Mr. Johnson was quick to put all personal interests aside and enlist in the navy. He had been in training for five months when the armistice closed hostilities. Fraternally he holds membership with the Masons, having attained the thirty-second degree in the Scottish Rite, and he holds membership in Minneapolis Lodge, No. 19, F. & A. M.; Minneapolis Consistory and Zuhrah Temple of the Mystic Shrine. Socially he is identified with the Interlachen Club, the Minneapolis Athletic Club and the Odin Club. The religious faith of the Johnson family is that of the Congregational church. The success Mr. Johnson has achieved is probably due to concentration upon one certain line of business, to the upbuilding of which he has devoted his entire time and attention. His genial and pleasing personality have won for him many friends and he holds the confidence and esteem of all with whom he has come into contact.
